Course Format and Delivery
Live Online Zoom Sessions
The UI/UX Design Course is delivered across seven live sessions, each lasting three hours. You can join classes from anywhere, with schedules designed to fit around work and study.

No design or coding background required
Willingness to explore, test, and build
Each class is led by an experienced UX instructor and supported by a teaching assistant. Replays, lesson materials, and tool access are all included.

Pre-Course Setup
Gain early access to the VI learning portal. Set up your tools, connect with other learners, and start reviewing beginner-friendly guides on Figma and UX principles.
Module 1: UX Design Fundamentals
Understand the role of UX in digital products, key design terms, and how user needs shape business outcomes. You’ll explore real-world case studies and start your capstone planning.
Module 2 – User Research & Design Thinking
Learn how to run interviews, gather feedback, and map user goals. You’ll use design thinking to identify key pain points, ideate creative solutions, and define product direction.
Module 3 – Information Architecture
Structure your product content for clarity. This module covers site mapping, user flows, and the basics of navigational hierarchy to improve the user’s journey.
Module 4 – Wireframing & Prototyping
Create wireframes and interactive prototypes in Figma. You’ll test layouts, refine page structure, and explore user flow validation with feedback loops and design revisions.
Module 5 – Visual Design
Apply UI principles such as contrast, spacing, typography, and colour theory. You’ll build reusable design systems, style guides, and consistent branding for a professional interface.
Module 6 – Usability Testing
Test your prototype with real users. Learn how to collect feedback, identify usability issues, and prioritise improvements using practical tools like Miro and ChatGPT prompt support.
Module 7 – Capstone Project
Bring everything together in a final UX case study. You’ll solve a problem, build a prototype, and document your process — ready to showcase to employers or clients.
Bonus: AI in UX Design
Throughout the course, you’ll learn how to use AI tools like ChatGPT for idea generation, Miro for collaborative planning, and Figma plugins for design automation.

Is any design experience required before enrolling?
No, this course is designed for beginners and those with no background in design or coding. You’ll start with the foundations of user experience, interface layout, and research methods before moving into tools like Figma and Miro. Each topic is explained clearly during live classes, and support is available throughout. By the end, you’ll be able to build a complete prototype and speak confidently about your design process — even if you started with zero experience.
Can I still access the content if I miss a live Zoom session?
If you miss a class, you won’t fall behind. All sessions are recorded and uploaded to the student portal, along with the slides and supporting materials. You’ll still be able to complete exercises, review the content on your own schedule, and reach out to teaching assistants for help. This flexible structure means you can continue learning even with a busy week or unexpected changes to your availability.
How long does the course take to complete?
The course runs across seven lessons, with each session lasting three hours. Depending on your chosen schedule, the course typically takes around five to six weeks to complete. You can choose between weekday evening classes or weekend blocks to suit your routine. Many students complete the programme while working full-time, studying, or managing other personal commitments.
Is there a final project or assessment?
Yes. You’ll complete a capstone project that includes user research, wireframing, prototyping, and presentation. This project helps reinforce the full UX design process and gives you a portfolio piece you can use in job applications or freelance work. You’ll also receive feedback from your instructor on your work, helping you understand your strengths and areas for improvement.
What certification do I get after finishing the course?
Graduates receive a professional certificate from Vertical Institute, which outlines the course modules and confirms your skills in user experience design, Figma, and AI integration. This certification is recognised by employers in Singapore and helps strengthen your professional profile. Many students add it to their CVs or showcase it on LinkedIn as part of their skills development.
How much will I pay after subsidies?
Most eligible Singaporeans can complete the course with little or no cost. If you’re aged 40 or above, you’ll receive a 70% subsidy and can cover the rest using SkillsFuture Credits — bringing your payable amount to $0. If you’re under 40, the 50% subsidy applies, with SFC covering the rest, bringing your cost to around $180. Permanent Residents receive a 50% subsidy and pay the remaining $1,180. NTUC members can also claim UTAP for further reductions.
